There seems to be a scary trend recently of using legal loopholes and untruths to delay, or even betray, democracy. We saw this in Guyana, very nearly in T&T, and might see it in the USA. The latter worries me the worse.
I don’t often comment on politics, notably foreign affairs, but the events are concerning. The US is supposed to be one of the most robust and most powerful democracies in the world. Yet, within four years, much of the cracks in the institutions have turned into massive holes. The craziest thing is the people standing by and watching, and even standing behind it.
Many of the predictions made on what the current present president would do has come to pass. He seems emboldened by his success over the impeachment trials, to a point where he is not even hiding what he’s trying to do. Would the predictions on refusing the accept and also trying to litigate the results come to pass as well?
We need to remember that the US has the third-largest military and the second most nuclear weapons. Any descent into dystopia should be cause for alarm. The world is watching, and even worst, there are some taking notes and planning to follow.
I hope in November the US people take the stand against corruption and tyranny and choose to be on the right side of history.
