The last couple of days, I didn’t write anything. Wish I could say that I just took some time off, but the truth was that I just didn’t feel like it. And I don’t feel like it today.
Here’s the thing, though – when you don’t feel like doing something, especially if its something you usually like doing, do it anyway. You might find yourself motivated to complete it.
This is called the Activation Motivation Paradox, and it says that things don’t become motivating until after we’ve started them. We sometimes refer to as just showing up.
I found myself having to do this often with things like exercise, socialising, cleaning and studying. I would start and find myself going through the motions and often enjoying myself. Socialising is especially tricky for me, but I usually have a blast when I do decide to head out, just don’t expect me to do that often.
So when you have something that you don’t feel motivated to do, start doing it, you may find it’s not too back. But never with writing reports though – that shit is never motivating.
