Imagine planting a beautiful garden with tree seedlings that you hope will grow into mighty trees that will provide shade and fruits for generations to come. And now imagine, that the garden and seedlings are torn down in front of your eyes. Your dream will never materialise.
That’s what it’s like working in an environment trying to put in a strategy for growth, only to be told, “We like how we are now.” All that planning has gone down the drain.
No matter what, you need to understand the culture that exists. Culture eats strategy for breakfast.
To change a culture requires small changes. No radical steps will bring change unless the majority of people want it. So, change the people. To change people, they need to want to change. So you have to do it individually. And that could only happen in small steps.
I hate that the garden was torn up. But hopefully, enough people had a picture of what it could have looked like to want to try planting that garden again.
