Today is Trinidad and Tobago’s 58th Independence Anniversary. Of course, with COVID-19 restrictions, the regular celebrations such as the Independence parade and fireworks are out this year. Most people are disappointed, but understand and mostly agree with it.
The T&T people have taken COVID-19 in stride. No one is against masks, but not everyone is wearing one. But no one argues or complain if they are not let into an establishment if they don’t have on a mask.
The government has still decided enact laws to make it mandatory to wear masks in public spaces. Of course, no real debate and thought went into it, so it’s imperfect. This is acceptable, given the situation, but I only hope that there is no abuse by the people responsible for enforcing the ordinance.
The biggest highlight of the day was the live stream performance by Kes The Band. While it could not replace an in-person performance, it was memorable and highly enjoyable. Check out the encore recording here:
Happy Independence T&T.
