Many say that the achievements of people are limitless. I disagree. I believe that there is a limit that someone will reach in any area they aspire.
Someone may not run a mile faster than 4 minutes. Or read more than a 200 word per minute. Or go beyond their current position at a company.
And this may not be for the lack of trying, but only that for that particular area they have reached their limit.
I would generally watch someone perform and say that person has potential, or that person has reached as far as they could. And that’s all fine with me.
I believe that even I have limits. I don’t think I can do anything to what I set my mind. I’ve tried to move objects with my thoughts, and that hasn’t worked yet, no matter how hard I tried. Or maybe I’m not trying hard enough? Hmmm?
But I’ve never felt as though I was meeting my fullest potential. There’s certainly more that I can do, but probably in a different area. Perhaps still in IT, but somewhere like in education instead.
And that’s the thing about potential. Many people seek more success in just one area and become frustrated when they don’t succeed. But there are so many undeveloped areas that are worth considering, and areas that the potential to grow and achieve far exceeds the area in which you’re currently.
It’s scary trying that because you’re never sure how it would work out.
But you never know if you’re meeting your fullest potential until you try.
