Now that I’ve chosen an M.Sc. project topic, it’s time to get started. And how did I get started? By working on the way to organise my research, while not doing much research. At least I got started, right?
I’m going through the book, Atomic Habits by James Clear, and he speaks about the ideas of motion and action.
When you’re in motion, you’re planning and strategizing and learning. Those are all good things, but they don’t produce a result.
Action, on the other hand, is the type of behaviour that will deliver an outcome.
Motion is the thing you do when you want to feel like you’re making progress, but you’re just dicking around.
Now in fairness, I did need to structure myself, but I also could have started doing the actual research and making some notes. I’m not all that structured yet, but I have some setup using Evernote and Zotero. I started to play around with Notion but stopped when I realise what I was doing. I will stick with something basic for now and do something more only if required.
I guess this is some sort of progress. I’ll do some more tomorrow and will aim for some action this time over motion.
