I tell people that when I started my business, it was never about the money, and I still don’t think about the money. Most of them think I’m speaking nonsense or that I’m lying.
The truth is that the money is not the first thing in my mind. It’s about the purpose and what I truly want to achieve.
Of course, I expect to get paid for what I do and I expect to be paid fairly. And because the quality of my work is high, I expect to be paid highly as well.
But when I do work, I do work with the intention that the customer benefits fully from what I do. That the project meets their goals, that it meets their expectations, and they are happy with the outcome at the end. I want to know that whatever I am doing brings the customer true benefits, is not ill-suited to them, and that I’m not taking advantage of anyone.
To me, when the first thing in your mind is the money, it’s a slippery slope where you’ll do anything for it, including lying cheating and stealing.
I would like my dream house, my dream cars, to take those dream vacations and have that dream getaway house at the beach. But those are just goals that I would like to achieve. It is not about having the money to do it, but about earning the money that I may achieve those things in time.
And expect to achieve my goals.
So when next time I tell you that not about the money, you may choose to believe it or not, but at least I know what I am doing is for a higher purpose.
